Norton Priory is described as the most excavated monastic site in Europe, with abbey ruins, a 12th-century undercroft and an 18th-century walled garden still on show. The Bridgewater Canal, extended to Runcorn in 1776, and the historic Runcorn Railway Bridge, built in 1868, both point to its industrial and canal-side past. More recently, Runcorn was designated a New Town in 1964, and a 1967 masterplan roughly doubled its population in the decades that followed.
That history has left Runcorn with mixed housing: a historic core alongside large-scale estate development from the 1960s and 70s New Town era. Moving from a New Town estate is usually a different job to moving from the older parts of town, and our crew plans access, parking and timings around whichever type of property you're in.
